TAIPEI, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Bilateral Taiwan-mainland trade in the first eight months of this year totaled US$39.646 billion, up by 38.5 per cent over the previous year's level, according to the latest government statistics.
Statistics compiled by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) show that the figure accounts for 17.9 per cent of the country's overall foreign trade for the January-August period.
During the eight-month period, Taiwan exports to mainland China hit US$29.311 billion, or 25.9 per cent of the country's total outbound shipments -- a 1.7 percentage point growth over the year-earlier level. Mainland exports to Taiwan stood at US$10.335 billion, making up 9.6 per cent of the country's total inbound shipments -- a 1.3 per cent increase year-on-year.
Taiwan enjoyed a surplus of US$18.976 billion in trade with the mainland, up by 23.9 per cent compared to the year-earlier mark.
