LEADERS, we have traditionally been told, are born and not made. But then, in an egalitarian age where consensus was king and a 'meeting culture' of collective decision-making predominated, the whole notion of leadership became rather politically incorrect.

This has lasted for at least a couple of generations. But fashions change and, in the business world at least, strong and positive leadership has consistently proved itself superior to the softer, fluffier variety. Money talks.
