CMA CGM and P'O Ports have secured long term container terminal capacity at the French box port of Le Havre.
Generale de Manutention Portuaire, a cargo-handler controlled by the companies' Portsynergy joint venture, has signed a first terminal operating convention for Le Havre's Port 2000 container complex.
The convention gives Le Havre-based GMP a 36-year operating concession over two of the first four 350 m berths at the complex, which is due to come into service late next year or early 2006.
A second convention with Terminaux de Normandie, which is partnered by Maersk-Sealand, has still to be signed.
