SARASOTA -- The county commissioners will hire an independent counsel to fight a lawsuit challenging the term limits in the county charter.
A Venice couple has challenged a 1998 charter amendment that imposes two-term limits for commissioners, saying it's unconstitutional.
J. Frank and Dorothy Moore sued the county Oct. 21 in a Complaint for Declaratory Relief that could go before a 12th Circuit Court judge next year.
