(From The News (Nigeria) - AAGM)
Despite being a few months away from bagging a Bachelor's degree in Chemical/ Polymer Engineering, Tosin Olakanye alias Ayanbinrin does not want to be an engineer.
What does she want to be? A career drummer, she says!
Towards this, Tosin, 25, has begun her journey. Already, she is an accomplished player of gangan, the talking drum popular among the Yoruba. Her dexterity has earned her shows with famous drummer, Muri Ayangbola.
Tosin's affair with the talking drum began at the State Primary School, Dopemu in Lagos where she was a chorister.
As a chorister, she was restricted to singing. Yet, the throbbing sound of gangan kept her heart fluttering.
"I have been in music since my primary school days and I loved the sound of the drum though I couldn't play it," Tosin said. The passion for drums found no expression until she gained admission into the Lagos State University.
