Why did you decide to decline the honour?

Nigeria has disappointed me and has disappointed many Nigerians and I feel that the situation is getting worse and worse. I thought I should draw attention to this, (a wake up call) because people are losing patience and losing confidence. And Nigeria is losing its position in Africa and in the Black world and in the world as a whole. The situation in Nigeria is far below expectation.

You said that the situation is getting worse and worse, can you be more specific?

I am not going to do a litany. Nigeria is a country that does not work: the hospitals; the roads; water; the economy; light... I will not receive one more award and go on as if nothing is happening.

In your book, " The Trouble with Nigeria", you said the problem with Nigeria is that of leadership and in your letter ...
