Brigham Young University UT will consolidate its women's and men's athletics departments, the school announced recently. The restructuring comes on the heels of a four-month review to streamline the school's athletics programs and make them more competitive, said K. Fred Skousen, VP for advancement at BYU.
The University of Minnesota combined its women's and men's athletics departments in 2002 as part of a plan to save $9.5 million over five years. Its deficit was expected to reach $21 million over that period.
