Newlywed Linda MacDonald was found dead in her home and her husband lay injured in hospital last night with detectives waiting to question him.

The 53-year-old, who was discovered at her Devon house this week, fell deeply in love with African healer Hibiekoun Hien just months ago after meeting him on a journey to his village.

It had seemed like a match made in the stars when her husband-to-be told her that his spiritual helpers had predicted a woman from the West would come to him.

But last night the romantic dream lay in tatters, with Linda dead and detectives waiting to question Hibiekoun.

Linda met her 53-year-old husband, who does not speak any English, on a visit to his village in Dano, Burkino Faso, West Africa.

Friends in the mother-of-two's home town of Buckfastleigh yesterday paid tribute to a "strong spiritual" woman as details of Linda's first encounter with Hibiekoun emerged.
