ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sought to allay French fears over Turkey's membership of the European Union and asked for reassurance from French President Jacques Chirac regarding his backing of Ankara's entry into the wealthy bloc.
"We are all together; NATO, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Why should we not be so in the EU?," Erdogan asked at a press conference in Paris while responding to a question of how he would convince the French public on the benefits of Turkish membership.
