Atomic energy authority hits back at nuclear plant cancer-risk claims.

Dounreay's operators last night responded to a new report which claimed that the cancer risk posed by routine releases from nuclear plants could be up to 10 times that previously thought.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority said it was confident the public was not being harmed by any of its operations.

The report, by the Committee Examining Radiation Risks of Internal Emitters, is likely to lead to calls for stricter limits in low-level emissions from nuclear plants.
