Health Sec. Manuel M. Dayrit yesterday defended the government's promotion of natural family planning (NFP) method and his contract with the Catholic organization Couples for Christ (CFC) to heavily promote it, noting NFP was more effective than some contraceptives used for artificial family planning method.
Condoms, according to Mr. Dayrit, were only 90%-95% effective, while NFP, particularly the ovulation method, was 98%-99% effective.
