CANCUN, MEXICO -- Many physicians are not aggressive enough when they treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis and never get to the point where maintenance therapy is possible, Dr. Jon M. Hanifin said at the Ninth World Congress of Pediatric Dermatology.
Physicians, particularly primary care physicians, tend to be wary of corticosteroids, so they use a low-potency topical such as hydrocortisone, said Dr. Hanifin, professor of pediatric dermatology at Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland.
