Caravelle Hotel has emerged as place of choice for business travelers and discerning tourists craving a premium quality service
[QQ] After the Saigon Floating Hotel, the first five-star hotel in Vietnam, left HCM City in 1997, the hotel market seemed to experience a serious shortage of top-end accommodation. At that time, luxury-seeking customers, especially business travelers, did not have much choice, as there were few five-star hotels in the city. One year later, however, a new player joined the market and has quickly gained prestige as place of choice for business people and tourists as well.
The Caravelle Hotel was re-opened in 1998 after expensive renovation and the construction of a 24-story tower in addition to its original 10-story building. The hotel has 335 rooms and suites equipped with the most modern conveniences, such as international direct dialing, high-speed Internet access, satellite television, DVDs and other facilities. In addition, it enjoys the advantage of being in the heart of the business, shopping and nightlife district.
Caravelle was also well known as a venue of international journalists during the war. In 2001, it was filmed for a scene in The Quiet American, which was adapted from a novel of the same name by British novelist Graham Greene. Its rooftop Saigon Saigon Bar on the 10th floor, with its open air bar and spectacular view of the downtown area, has been named the best bar in HCM City. The bar was a gathering place for war correspondents and international journalists in the 1960s and early 1970s.
