LAS VEGAS - To avoid immobilizing more muscle than you would like to, keep in mind that botulinum toxin A diffuses 13 cm from the injection site, Dr. Seth L. Matarasso said at a seminar sponsored by the Skin Disease Education Foundation.
It used to be recommended that treated areas should not be massaged and that patients should remain vertical for at least 3-4 hours after a procedure to lessen the chances of too much diffusion of the toxin, said Dr. Matarasso, a dermatologist in private practice in San Francisco.
Instead, keep your injections small, precise, and well away from potential trouble areas, he said.
