The Food and Drug Administration has approved pimecrolimus for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in patients aged 2 years and older.
The product, which Novartis Pharmaceuticals plans to bring to market in March under the trade name Elidel, is approved for short-term and intermittent long-term treatment in patients who fail to respond to therapy with topical corticosteroids.
