The conflicting pressures of academics and sports can bring "huge stress" to college athletes, according to participants at a conference sponsored by the Knight Foundation Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics.
The pressures can start while a student is recruited while still in high school. High school senior Myron Rolle said he and his father received multiple text messages per day on cell phones and as many as seven calls each night from recruiting analysts. While the NCAA regulates recruiting visits, text messaging is OK.
