Restoring period gilding.(collection of decorative arts)
Since period frames--those used to surround and embellish mirror glass, paintings, and other works of art--are rarely handled because they hang safely out of harm's way, they would appear to be among the best preserved of all antiques. However, when moved from one location to another they may suffer losses in their decorative elements, abrasions to the gilding, chipping, or a weakening where the corners are mitered. These are the types of problems that lead collectors to seek the services of a well-trained and experienced restorer such as Gold Leaf Designs, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
