SAN FRANCISCO -- Postmenopausal women with osteoporosis are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and those with cardiovascular disease are at increased risk of osteoporosis, Dr. Cheryl A. Keech reported in a poster presentation at a conference on cardiovascular disease epidemiology and prevention sponsored by the American Heart Association.
The co-occurrence of these diseases suggests that there may be a pathophysiologic basis for the comorbidity, reported Dr. Keech of Lilly Research Laboratories, Indianapolis. In addition, the relationship may suggest changes in the way clinicians manage postmenopausal women with either of these diagnoses.
