Yves Klein blue. Hermes orange. Christian Louboutin red. Few colors have achieved icon status. But this season, as Miuccia Prada unveiled her spring collection in Milan, a new shade-_custom-blended on the spot by P&G Beauty's Pat McGrath to be perfectly in sync with the fuchsia patent sandals and shiny crocodile carryalls-was born. Think Prada pink.
"All of the girls were ooh-ing and ahh-ing. Everyone was just obsessed," says McGrath of the shockingly bright, opaque cyclamen that she meticulously dabbed on only nine of the 22 otherwise nude-faced models-Gemma Ward, Jessica Stam, Marina Peres-hand-selected by Mrs. Prada.
In a season of little makeup news (clean skin, mostly bare eyes), lush lips seemed to carry the entire face. Lacquered in unapologetically bold shades-slick magenta at Gucci, saucy salmon at Anna Sui, juicy watermelon at Thakoon, cherry-red at Valentino-and often the only smattering of color against a sandy, almost foundation-colored palette of clothes, they added a graphic pop that was ...
