Young Collin Bair's mother, Jennifer Bair, took him over to his cousin's house in Cope, South Carolina, on July 8 for a summer afternoon in the sun. Collin and his cousin Cory Kaiser, who is three, paddled around the pool on a float, enjoying themselves.
Collin's and Cory's mothers took their eyes off the boys only for a moment before they were alerted by Cory's sister, Kennerly Ann. "He's going under!" she yelled. Mrs. Blair told the Orangeburg, South Carolina, Times and Democrat, "When I looked over there, Cory had fallen off the float and Collin had him." Seeing his cousin slip into the water, Collin had immediately followed to help the younger boy.
