But a modern Washington-state woman shares the famous rail-splitter's character trait of honesty. Among the items that Connie Hilty of Richland, Washington, inherited when her mother died five years ago was a steak knife. She was curious about an inscription engraved on the knife's blade: "Farmer's Elevator Company, Harry Nitschke, Jud, North Dakota."
