In Hawaii, a man named Keith Robinson, who has one of the most successful records in that state for saving endangered plants, has halted major efforts to save rare plants and is allowing many of the species he propagated to die of neglect because of government interference and the likelihood of attacks by so-called environmentalists wielding provisions of the Endangered Species Act. Years of success propagating Hawaii's endangered plants--where government efforts had failed--have convinced Robinson that present government efforts to save Hawaiian endangered species are futile and that only by changing governmental policies can Hawaii's endangered species be saved.
