Rene Almanza is a 16-year-old member of the track team at South San West High School in San Antonio, Texas. The young man is also a member of the ROTC, where he learned to perform the Heimlich maneuver. The training proved to be a true lifesaver on April 5, when Rene was walking home from track practice and noticed a little boy choking on a lollipop.
Using his ROTC training, Rene quickly performed the maneuver, and the candy popped out of the toddler's mouth.
