During Carnival in New Orleans, a celebration that lasts from January 6 until "Fat Tuesday" (also called Mardi Gras), the day before Ash Wednesday, two teenagers went on an armed robbery spree until they were stopped by one intended victim.
On the night of Friday, February 4, the two teenage robbers, Micah Adams, 17, and his 19-year-old brother Darius, approached an unidentified man who was walking to his car from work. Micah Adams displayed a handgun, but the intended victim pulled out his own gun and started shooting. Micah was hit several times in the torso, causing his death. Darius fled.
The police, according to the February 6 Times-Picayune, "found a car idling nearby that they think was the brothers' intended getaway vehicle." Darius was arrested a short time after the attempted robbery. During questioning by the police, Darius admitted that he and his brother were responsible for a series of armed robberies in the vicinity of Tulane University. Darius was charged with attempted armed robbery and may face an additional charge of murder because he was involved in a felony that resulted in death.
