According to the Macomb Journal of December 5, Leonard Gamage, an 87-year-old ex-soldier from Macomb, Georgia, spent 45 minutes fighting off an intruder on the night of Friday, December 3.
The incident began at about 9 p.m. when a young man that Gamage did not recognize came to his front door. When Gamage went to open the door, the man forced his way inside the house. After Gamage asked the young man what he wanted and then told him to leave, the man began scuffling with Gamage in the kitchen.
During the fight, Gamage managed to get the young man outside the house, but when Gamage tried to re-enter his house, the scuffle renewed. In the midst of the altercation, Gamage made his way to a gun rack inside the house and managed to grab one of a pair of rifles that were there.
Tiring rapidly because he had had a major nose bleed the previous day which had left him in a weakened condition, Gamage hit the young man with the gun's stock. After the blow, the young man looked at Gamage and said, "I'm going to get you."
Gamage fired a pair of warning shots, but the young man came at him anyway, so Gamage shot him in the left foot. Upon being shot the young man began "jumping around like a chicken with his head cut off." After telling the man to "freeze," Gamage went ...
