DALLAS COWBOYS
CAP SPACE: The team is about $12 million under the cap. It might not make as big of a free-agent splash as last year, but it could go after a right tackle, a free safety and a receiver. MOVING ON: The team has three contributors--blocking TE Dan Campbell, G Andre Gurode and LB Scott Fujita--who could leave, but none of the departures would have a big impact. Campbell is the kind of gritty player coach Bill Parcells always has liked, but he couldn't help the running game get cranked up for much of last season. The Cowboys have vacillated from year to year on whether they view Gurode as a backup or a starter. Now, they just know they want him back. Fujita did a solid job starting on the weak side in the second half of last season, but the team will try to upgrade that position even if it re-signs him. Fujita never will be a dominant outside linebacker, and that's what the team needs in the 3-4. TARGETS: Steelers FS Chris Hope is an intriguing option, but the team must avoid putting too much money into one area. CB Anthony Henry already has a big contract, and SS Roy Williams and CB Terence Newman will be free agents in the next couple of years and will require huge deals. Antwaan Randle El would fill a need at punt returner and is a big-play threat at receiver. After looking at the available right tackles, the team may decide it's better to use a first- or second-round draft pick on one and inject some youth into the line.--Jean-Jacques Taylor
NEW YORK GIANTS
CAP SPACE: The Giants figure to be about $3 million under the cap, which means their focus likely will be on second-tier free agents. Their primary target will be a cornerback, but they also will look at linebackers and receivers. MOVING ON: The team would like to re-sign CB Will Allen but not at the price he's going to command. If the Giants are going to spend a lot of money on a corner, they want a better playmaker than Allen. Nick Greisen provides valuable depth, but he wants to be a starting middle linebacker, so he probably will leave. TARGETS: The Giants might look at safeties, but they probably will place a higher premium on a playmaking cornerback. Deshea Townsend makes sense because of his history in Pittsburgh with Giants coordinator Tim Lewis. Ty Law, 32, also could be an option, though the team would prefer someone younger. If the Giants decide to go after a safety, the Steelers' Chris Hope would be the top choice. The Rams' Adam Archuleta also will be high on the list, but he might be too expensive. The Giants likely will address the need at linebacker in the draft and spend their remaining money on a reliable No. 3 receiver who eventually could replace Amani Toemer as the No. 2 wideout. The team could target a speed receiver such as the Texans' Corey Bradford or a possession receiver such as the Seahawks' Joe Jurevicius or the Patriots' David Givens. The price probably will be the deciding factor.--Ralph Vacchiano
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
CAP SPACE: The club has room under the cap--about $8 million--and could make more room with some personnel moves. The plan is to target at least one starting-caliber free agent and increase depth. MOVING ON: RT Jon Runyan plans to test the market and is looking for a big payday. If the Eagles lose him, they will replace him with second-year pro Todd Herremans ...
