DENVER BRONCOS
CAP SPACE: At $23 million over the cap, the team is focused on restructuring contracts rather than making a splash on the market. But the Broncos could become active if LT Matt Lepsis and/or DT Gerard Warren surprise them by not re-signing. MOVING ON: All of the free agents who contributed regularly to the team are expected back. DE John Engelberger's return helps with depth should RE Trevor Pryce become a salary cap casualty. Denver also has cap issues with LE Courtney Brown and lost DE Marco Coleman to retirement. Don't be surprised if the Texans pursue Lepsis. Losing him would be a big blow because the team likely would have to shift George Foster from the right side, where he's a better fit. The Broncos also could go with Cornell Green at left tackle, but he's best suited to remain a backup. TARGETS: Denver has been linked to WR Terrell Owens and RB Ricky Willlams, but acquiring either is a long shot. Even before Williams' latest troubles, the team likely would not have given up a second-round pick for him. Denver doesn't have cap space for Owens. Rather than look for outside help at wideout, the team hopes WR David Terrell can step up and compete for the No. 3 receiver spot. The Broncos likely will explore low-cost options after the big names have signed in hopes of finding a bargain. The team could pursue Lions QB Jeff Garcia again because it lacks a veteran behind Jake Plummer, and it could go after a linebacker to improve depth.--Lee Rasizer
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
CAP SPACE: The team needs to shed more than $20 million to get to the cap limit, so it likely won't be a major player for free agents. But after the league's early flurry of activity, the Chiefs could dive in for help at wide receiver and on the defensive line. MOVING ON: Because the Chiefs replace the fullback with an extra tight end or third receiver on up to two-thirds of their plays, it's difficult to see them re-signing FB Tony Richardson, even though they would miss his versatility and lead-blocking ability. DT Lional Dalton's play declined last season, and the team could replace him with Junior Siavii or Jimmy Wilkerson, though neither has been consistent. Losing WR Marc Boerigter would force the team to add reserve help. And it will have to find an experienced backup for QB Trent Green if Todd Collins doesn't return. TARGETS: The Chiefs need veteran help at wide receiver, where only Eddie Kennison has been productive for them the past several seasons. Kevin Curtis would be a good fit in the Chiefs' scheme, but he's a restricted free agent and prying him from the Rams figures to be difficult. The Patriots' David Givens probably will be out of the team's price range. The Chiefs have shown some interest in Terrell Owens but only for a one-year deal. The pass rush needs to improve; only RE Jared Allen has been a consistent presence in the backfield. Signing a situational pass rusher makes a lot of sense. The club would be wise to pursue the Vikings' Lance Johnstone, who could provide a boost in passing situations and rotation relief for Allen and LE Eric Hicks.--Adam Teicher
OAKLAND RAIDERS
CAP SPACE: The Raiders are about $18 million over the cap. They can get under by letting some players go and re-signing others to cap-friendly deals. Look for the team to make a few eye-opening moves, as it always does, but probably nothing as ...
