HOUSTON TEXANS
CAP SPACE: The team is about $4 million under the cap and will look to open more space. The Texans will be midlevel players in the market and sign a couple of free agents. MOVING ON: RB Jonathan Wells probably can command more money and playing time somewhere else, and he won't accept a No. 3 role if the Texans draft RB Reggie Bush. WR Corey Bradford, a free agent for the second straight season, is not likely to be brought back this time. He had too many drops and too few big plays in 2005. TARGETS: The team likely will focus on tight end and defensive end in the free-agent market. Few teams have used their tight ends less than the Texans, who lack a capable receiving threat at that position. The Bengals' Matt Schobel is a good blocker who has potential as a receiver. He's the type of player who could force safeties to focus less on WR Andre Johnson. The team needs some experienced defensive ends. The switch to a 4-3 defense has left Antwaan Peek and Jason Babin, who were outside linebackers in the 3-4, as the only ends. Neither Peek nor Babin has played end since college, and Babin (6-2, 259) might not be big enough to make the move. Look for the team to try to re-sign WR Jabar Gaffney, but it also would like to add another receiver who can draw one more attention away from Johnson. The team wants to upgrade the offensive line, and Broncos LT Matt Lepsis is an attractive target--especially because he knows new coach Gary Kublak's system.--Megan Manfull
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
CAP SPACE: The team locked up WR Reggie Wayne last week with a six-year, $39 million deal. Now it needs to restructure the contracts of QB Peyton Manning and WR Marvin Harrison, re-sign a few players and issue one-year tenders to several restricted free agents. All of that won't allow the Colts to be major free-agent players, though, especially early. MOVING ON: The team placed the franchise tag on RB Edgerrin James last offseason, but it was deemed too expensive to do again. He almost certainly will leave. Backup RB Dominic Rhodes, coming off a subpar season, probably will be released because he's due a $1.45 million roster bonus. The team also figures to lose K Mike Vanderjagt, who faltered in the playoffs and has a history of annoying management. The team wants to bring back DT Larry Tripplett, who is coming off a strong season. But the price has to be right because there is depth on the line. TARGETS: With Wayne in the fold, the team will attempt to re-sign versatile LE Raheem Brock and solid OLB David Thornton. A second-tier running back such as the Seahawks' Maurice Morris could be an affordable replacement for James, at least for the short term. As for Vanderjagt's replacement, quality kickers are hard to find. Possibilities include Paul Edinger (Vikings), Matt Bryant (Bucs) and Joe Nedney (49ers). Other needs include a veteran guard to push returning starters Jake Scott and Ryan Lilja and a linebacker.--Mike Chappell
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
CAP SPACE: The team has about $10 million to spend but will be selective, which likely means it again will go bargain hunting. MOVING ON: The biggest name expected to hit the market is starting OLB Akin Ayodele. Though he is a terrific athlete, he doesn't make ...
