NASCAR has a long history of cheaters. Racers looking for an edge have built bigger engines, doctored tires and conspired to find even the slightest bit of gray in the blackest and whitest of rules. But crew chief Chad Knaus set a new standard when be monkeyed with the window of Jimmie Johnson's car in qualifying for the Daytona 500.
Knaus is not new to, um, innovative attempts to make the No. 48 faster, so NASCAR officials came down hard. They kicked him out of Daytona for the rest of the week. Some guy named Darian Grubb--normally an engineer--filled in as crew chief.
So guess who won the race: Jimmie Johnson.
