Tokyo Stocks Tumble on Tech Sales, Nikkei Briefly below 11,200.

Tokyo, Oct. 12 (Jiji Press)--Stocks tumbled in postholiday trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Tuesday with the benchmark Nikkei stock average briefly falling below the 11,200 line, as selling hit technology issues amid jitters over the course of the U.S. economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei average ended down 147.54 points, or 1.3 pct, at 11,201.81. On Friday, the Nikkei dropped 5.24 points. The Tokyo market was closed Monday for a national holiday.

The TOPIX index of all first-section issues was down 13.26 points, or 1.2 pct, to finish at 1,126.80, after losing 1.78 points on the previous trading day.
