Feb. 26--The six-man Sunny Isles Beach motor unit sat at the round table with their wives and girlfriends, dressed in their black-tie best, nervously awaiting the announcement. They made small-talk, much of it about the grid-locked traffic getting into the gala, and clapped as winners were called. Then it was the Specialized Services Award, the category in which the department had been nominated for a Law Enforcement Officer award. Silence. Time at the table seemed to stop. Then the envelope was opened. Ken Hackett and the Sunny Isles Beach motor unit won, Brian Andrews of CBS-WFOR 4, said.
When the applause and camera flashes died down, the tight-knit team sauntered out of the banquet hall...
