Full Nelson
A STRONG turn-out at Somerset House in London this week as the Trafalgar Festival and SeaBritain 2005 were officially launched complete with a visit from the great man, Lord Nelson himself, or rather lookalike actor Alex Naylor, pictured right with 'Lady Hamilton' (aka Finni Golden).
There will be plenty of chances next year, during the 200th anniversary celebrations for the Battle of Trafalgar, to 'take a fresh look at the sea', with about 200 events planned round the UK looking back to the events of 1805 and forward to promoting shipping today.
Appropriately enough the press conference was held in the Navy Board Room where Nelson came in September 1805 to consult about the fleet being assembled to take on the French and Spanish.
On display was the only known hand-drawn sketch by Nelson of the tactics he was to use at Trafalgar.
Nelson expert Dr Colin White described it as 'the Holy Grail of naval history'.
