AN ON-line project management tool, which allows shipowners, shipyards and surveyors to manage all aspects of a newbuilding project, has been developed by classification society Bureau Veritas.

VeriSTAR Newbuilding allows the management of the design review, product certification and survey at site such that the resulting database created during the newbuilding then follows the life of the ship, allowing immediate access to product specifications for spare parts purchasing.

BV's Teymour Yaghmai said VeriSTAR was a proactive tool working through a collaborative platform that defines the scope of BV intervention, but which can accommodate client-specific requirements.

'Efficient project management is at the heart of effective delivery of survey, inspection and approval services,' said Bernard Anne, managing director of BV's marine division. As such BV has used its position as a leading marine equipment EU certifying body to build a new project management system to facilitate the management of documents and services for all marine projects.

VeriSTAR Newbuildings was tested across BV's global network during 2003 with training at the classification society's offices around the world.
