e-EUROSHIP, the internet-based procurement portal launched in January 2003 by Fincantieri, Alstom Marine, HDW, Meyer Werft and Izar, will have a subscription base of almost 1,000 by the end of this year, senior executives from the yards involved told Lloyd's List.

'The key function of e-Euroship is the processing of inquiries (requests for quotations) and quotations via the internet. In addition, suppliers have the opportunity to present their companies and products in a virtual showroom.

'The potential on the part of suppliers for optimising the co-operation with shipyards is identified by means of a rating system. The benefits of the portal are obvious: streamlining the procurement process, thus saving on costs on both suppliers and shipyards,' they said.
