Gulf of Mexico oil production remains a third down following damage to infrastructure from Hurricane Ivan and continued shut-in of platforms, writes Martyn Wingrove .
According to the Minerals Management Service, around 500,000 barrels of oil per day in production capacity is shut down, representing 29% of the region's daily output. Around 12.5m barrels of Gulf of Mexico production has been lost so far this year due to hurricanes.
