HISCOX chief executive Bronek Masojada has opened his term as president of London Insurance Institute with a pledge to work to curb the insurance industry's suicidal tendencies.

He said: 'There is a very real fear that the industry at large is on the verge of returning to its old ways of 'boom and bust'.

'I am convinced that this tendency to commit suicide is because the industry lacks the discipline to put our knowledge to work, and all too often writes business at any price.'

Mr Masojada, who is a deputy chairman of Lloyd's, said:
