(From Canberra Times)
Just when he thought things couldn't get any worse, Queanbeyan resident Vic Garland was proved wrong.
Mr Garland was just one victim of looting at the site of the explosion which destroyed two units, and made many other inaccessible, at 55 Donald Road in Queanbeyan on Tuesday.
Queanbeyan police duty officer Inspector Neil Grey said three burglaries had been reported in the unit complex adjacent to the explosion, but police have not been able enter the structurally unsound explosion site to make reports on further burglaries.
Inspector Grey said it was difficult to know if the crimes had been committed by the same person, but the similar time period of the Wednesday night burglaries indicated they were by committed by the same person or group of people.
Allan Degraf, the 24-year-old man injured in the explosion, who suffered second- and third-degree burns to 75 per cent of his body, as well as breaks to both legs, was still in intensive care at a Sydney hospital last night, but his condition had improved to critical but stable.
For Mr Garland, who is currently sleeping on the couch at a friend's house while his home is off limits, the theft of his computer came at the worst possible time.
