Business leaders have welcomed the ACT Liberal Party's business policy, saying plans to review or overturn ''anti-business'' legislation introduced by the Stanhope Government would restore confidence in the ACT business community.
The Government's new industrial manslaughter and occupational health and safety laws have been roundly condemned by business, which has also expressed concern about Labor's proposals to provide portable long-service leave.
The ACT and Region Chamber of Commerce chief executive Christopher Peters said yesterday anti- business legislation introduced by the ACT Government represented a serious threat to the private sector and he was pleased to see a Smyth government had committed to overturning these ''onerous and anti- business'' requirements. ''These anti-business issues from government have already caused businesses to reconsider whether they can take the risk of doing business in Canberra,'' he said.
''We have already seen one medium-sized business relocate to Queanbeyan, and other businesses are looking at following. Interstate head offices of some medium and large businesses have decided to restrict their operations in Canberra.
''Brendan Smyth's policy announcements to abolish these anti-business requirements would restore confidence in the business community of Canberra.'' Mr Peters welcomed plans to tackle indirect taxes ...
