The jockeys' Group 1 King Glen Boss will be sought to ride emerging stayer My Chinese King in the Canberra Cup on October 10 after the horse passed his test for the race by winning at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Trained by Greg Hickman at Warwick Farm, the Distorted Humour stallion had been knocking at the door in his last couple of starts with a Canterbury second over 1900m followed by a fourth on the same track and same trip.
Despite a heart-stopping few strides in the straight, My Chinese King notched his third win from 18 starts on Wednesday, again coming over Canterbury's 1900m course.
''He had to win today for us to be serious about the Canberra Cup,'' Hickman told Racenet's Jo Adams. ''I did think he had turned it up in the straight, so it was really good to see him fight back like that. ''I would like to see Glen [Boss] ride him in the Canberra Cup, but he is off to Melbourne now and whether or not he would be able to fly back for the race I don't know, we'll have to see what he thinks.'' Boss could not say if he would be in Canberra for the Cup meeting, but he did agree the Listed $100,000 2000m Cup would be a great race for My Chinese King. ''Oh yes, the Canberra Cup would be ideal for him,'' Boss said.
