Canberra orienteers have enjoyed a series of successes at the Australian Championships carnival in central NSW.
The carnival opened on Sunday with the NSW Championships, and round 13 of the National League, in a tough area in Wollemi National Park. Recently arriving back in Australia after the World Championships in Sweden, ACT Academy of Sport athlete Jo Allison overcame any signs of jet lag to win the women's elite race and extend the Canberra Cockatoos lead in the National League.
During the week, the focus shifted to the Australian Schools Championships with the Classic Distance races on Tuesday and the relays on Wednesday. Canberra's Blue Lightning squad performed exceptionally in the Classic distance races with Ineka Booth winning the Junior Girls race and Heather Harding the senior girls. ACT went into the relays leading the competition on 25 points, only one point clear of Victoria.
