(From Canberra Times)
CREATING a new car that is significantly better than its predecessor is never an easy task for any car company. For Porsche, it's even more difficult.
Not only is it trying to improve a car that already is at the forefront of technical excellence, but buyers insist that it does it while maintaining the basic character and overall styling of a design that first appeared 41 years ago.
The German company has achieved all of this with the latest incarnation of its successful 911.
The car retains the character of its forebears, in both its appearance and the driving experience, yet is better in every measurable way.
Importantly, although it remains very obviously a 911, it also manages to look so excitingly new that current owners will feel compelled to trade up. The new car comes in two versions, Carrera and Carrera S. Porsche salespeople say the base model is so well equipped that even a demanding buyer can drive it away without any added options and be more than pleased.
Yet for those who always want more, there is the Carrera S with greater power and performance and a few extra goodies.
