THAT purveyor of gorgeous- looking Italian motor vehicles, Alfa Romeo, will present one of the stars at this year's Australian motor show - the 300km/h Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione prototype. The show opens at Darling Harbour, Sydney, next Thursday and the team from Alfa Romeo's Australian importer, Ateco Automotive, will be hoping for better luck with the Competitizione than it had with last year's star attraction, the Brera.
The equally stylish Brera was to be the stand-out car on the Alfa stand at last year's show but it was damaged during loading in Italy and didn't get here.
Designed and developed at the Alfa Romeo Style Centre, the Competizione is driven - through the back wheels, unusually - by a supercharged 4.2-litre quad-cam, 32-valve turbo-charged V8 engine that delivers more than 298kW at 7000rpm.
