A long, straight drive and a final scorecard of around 10-under-par is all you would need to win the Federal Amateur Open Championship at Red Hill this weekend - at least that's what the players believe.
In front of around 200 people yesterday at the Championship launch, James Nitties, Michael Sim and Jarrod Lyle received their team uniforms for the World Amateur Teams Championships to be held in Puerto Rico later this month.
All three are looking to this weekend's tournament as their final hit-out before they attempt to claim one of Amateur golfing's greatest prizes.
Sim, who at 19 years old is the youngest of the side, said finding form now is vital for the lead up to the teams' tournament.
''I haven't been playing that well, but I've got three weeks to get things into gear, so hopefully things will shape up well,'' he said. ''I'll play this week and then I'll practice hard for the next couple of weeks.'' However, Sim is still hopeful his form will win him a top five finish.
He said Nitties, Lyle and 2002 winner Andrew Mckenzie were his biggest threats.
