(From Canberra Times)
A big contingent of local and interstate anglers is expected to celebrate tomorrow's opening of the 2004-2005 trout season in the ACT and NSW.
Streams in the region have been closed since June to allow brown and rainbow trout to spawn in peace.
Depending on location and status, the streams will be fishable with bait, lure or fly until the long weekend in June next year.
Brochures detailing the regulations relating to each waterway can be obtained from local tackle shops and fisheries or environment offices in the ACT and NSW.
Anglers are reminded that there are firm regulations relating to fishing. There are bag and size limits for different species of fish and anglers 18 years old and over - unless exempt as Commonwealth Pension card holders - must have a valid angling licence, which are available from tackle shops and cost $5 for three days, $10 for one month, $25 for one year or $70 for three years.
Conditions in local trout streams are varied. Higher country streams such as the Murrumbidgee, Thredbo, Eucumbene, Gungahlin and Tumut have been flowing strongly thanks to recent rainfall and runoff from melting snow.
