Ogi accepts manager's job with Orix
Yomiuri
Akira Ogi has accepted an offer to manage the Orix Buffaloes, the new team to be created for next season by the merger of the Orix BlueWave and Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes, the team said Thursday.
Ogi informed general manager Katsuhiro Nakamura of his acceptance by telephone from Oakland, Calif., where he watched Ichiro Suzuki's attempt at the major league single-season hit record.
"If my experience can be of help, I want to use it for the new team," Ogi said in a statement. "My first priority is to build a team that brings out the desire of the players."
The 69-year-old Ogi was the manager ofboth the Buffaloes and BlueWave over a 13-year period from 1988, leading both to at least one Pacific League title.
