2 MMC execs deny negligence charge

Yomiuri

YOKOHAMA

Two former senior officials of Mitsubishi Motors Corp. pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of professional negligence resulting in death and injury over an accident caused by a faulty MMC vehicle in Yokohama in 2002.

Hiroshi Murakawa, 58, who was head of MMC's quality control department, and Hirotoshi Miki, 56, who was a group leader in the department, denied all the allegations in the first hearing in their trial at the Yokohama District Court.

Yoko Masuda, 55, mother of Shiho Okamoto, who was killed when a tire fell off an MMC truck, said, "I'm very angry because they pleaded not guilty even though the company has offered an apology for the accident."
