Miles Davis was once asked by a reporter what his favorite note was. Davis thought for a moment and coolly replied, "silence." Brazilian bossa nova pioneer Joao Gilberto seems to share this belief. He has perfected a singing style that is beyond intimacy, as soft as a purring kitten and as familiar as an old friend.
