The People's Defence Forces [HPG] have verified news that mass graves were found in the Kender region, in the rural area of Bitlis' Tatvan district; news that was in our newspaper and first brought to light by the Dicle [Tigris] News Agency (DIHA) under the headline: "Not Kosovo But Bitlis, Two Mass graves Found" published on 23 August. Photographs taken by the DIHA correspondent in the Kender region showed what have been identified as mass graves, skulls, military uniforms and the "Mekap" footwear worn by Kurdistan Workers' Party [PKK] guerrillas.
