THE LONELINESS OF SALT 
 
   Wanting the comfort of waves, 
   my aunt looks out to sea. 
   From inside the cocoon car 
   she stares and stares, 
   waiting for salt solace. 
 
   She has left her cold house, 
   her days of filing the office, 
   nights with just the wireless; 
   no more Father, not even Mother. 
   Home, unfit for human consumption, 
   is dry as old bread in her mouth.
