Velma Cole, a college instructor at the University of College of Fraser Valley in British Columbia who is terminally ill with cancer, is standing up for her beliefs. Cole blew the whistle on Tory MP Randy White and he in turn called her a liar.
Cole butted heads with White at a campaign stop attended by about 400 people. According to Cole, White stated that there would be no more same-sex marriages and no more abortions under a Tory government. "I was chair of the status of women committee at my college and when I heard that, the effect was like ice going down my back," she said. Cole made a note of White's statements and contacted the local newspaper.
